Currency
The currency in Namibia is the Namibian Dollar (N$) which is divided into 100 cents and has the same value as the South African Rand.

Entry Requirements for Namibia
A valid (for at least 6 months beyond intended departure date) passport is usually all that is required to enter Namibia along with a valid return/onward airline ticket. Entry is then normally permitted for a maximum of 90 days. Extensions are possible by applying to the Ministry of Home Affairs during your stay in Namibia.

The rand can also be used as legal tender in Namibia, however you will not want to use your Namibian Dollars in South Africa as the conversion rate is usually only 70% of its face value.

Traveler’s checks in foreign currencies can be cashed in at banks and major credit cards, such as Master, Visa, and Diners Club, can be used in most places. American Express is also accepted, but not as widely as the other cards.

Generally speaking foreign currencies such as USD, Euro, and GBP cannot be used for payment of goods or services, however they can be exchanged for N$ at banks. We recommend traveling with a minimal amount of one of these currencies to exchange if necessary, then drawing local currency at an ATM upon your arrival in Namibia.
